SLOPPY JOES
Legend has it that the New Jersey version of the sandwich was brought back to the states from Havana
by the mayor of Maplewood, New Jersey in 1934 or 1935.  There are as many versions of the sandwich
as there are many explanations for it's invention and name.

Some hold that it originated in Sloppy Joe's bar in Cuba. Others attribute it to Sloppy Joe's in Key
West, Florida.  It was a favorite hangout of Earnest Hemmingway - responsible for the first known
appearance of the name "Sloppy Joe in print.  Still another attributes the ground-meat form of the
sandwich to a diner in Iowa, or to the depression-era habit of making almost anything out of hamburger.

Who knows?  I just know it has withstood the test of time as a simple, quick and easy way to make
lunch!  You'll probably want to double this recipe if there are more than 3 people eating!

EDDIE'S SLOPPY JOES

1 pound ground beef
1 small bottle catsup
1/2 cup water
Minced onion - at least 1 tablespoon
Garlic salt - sprinkle (probably teaspoon but do to taste)
1 Tablespoon white vinegar
1 Tablespoon Worcestshire Sauce
Tabasco - few drops
1/2 Teaspoon chili pepper
1 Teaspoon dry mustard (if none, couple of squirts wet mustard)
Salt and Pepper

Brown hamburger then add all the rest of the ingredients.  Ideally, it should simmer at
least 20 minutes to allow ingredients to meld together for flavor!

Scoop over hamburger buns - or one bun, open face with a fork.
