PEACE AND CLEANING!

Why do we let some things just pile up and walk by them day after day with no desire to pick them
up and put it away?  This is something I do that just drives my hubby bonkers.  What he doesn’t
realize is how much better I am now than I used to be – before I married Mr. Neat Freak.

God has been dealing with me to clean up my inner life.  One way to do that is to take control of
my outer life.  My inner life changes by what I put into it but if my outer life is a mess, then it, too,
will affect my inner life.

Sometimes the top of my sink in my bathroom looks like beauty products exploded on it.  I am so
bad about putting things right back where they belong.  Instead, I just leave it on the counter-top.
When I begin to have trouble finding things, I go on a cleaning binge and put it all where it
belongs, get the sink sparkling, and have peace reigning.

I have learned that when our outer life is a mess, it affects the peace in our home.  If our peace is
affected, then the time we spend with God becomes affected.  How many of you have ever begun
reading your Bible or praying, and look up and see something that needs to be put away?  You
get up to do that and never get back to reading your Bible or talking to God.

I want to encourage you this month to clean up your life, inside and out.  Our environment affects
our spiritual life.  The more peaceful the outer life is, the more peaceful the inner life will be.  As a
matter of fact, one can’t work without the other.  If your spiritual life is out of whack – no work, no
time spent with God – it will show up in your outer life, too.

I set a goal to clean every room of my house thoroughly – drawers, closets, baseboards, ceiling
fans, etc..  But I also plan to listen to the Word of God on CDs or DVD’s the entire time.  I can tell
you if you will clean your house this way, you will not only get more done, your inner life will be
cleaned up, too.  You will build up your inner man by renewing your mind (Eph. 3:16; 23)!

I challenge you to do what I’m doing.  Set a goal and a deadline to get your home organized.  First
off, write down the rooms or the areas (drawers, closets, cabinets) that need to be cleaned out.
Hang it some place where you can see it, like the fridge.  Devote 15, 30, 45 minutes or even an
hour a day to clean up one area at a time.  You can get a lot done in 15 minutes!   Only when you
finish, then check it off and move on to the next project.   Make sure that Word CD or DVD is going
all the time!

One expert I read said to start with something visible.  In other words, don’t clean out a drawer
when there is clutter on the counter-top.  When you can see progress being made, you will be
more inspired to continue!

1 Corinthians 14:40 says, “Let all things be done decently and in order.”  Your home and your
Spirit – in order and at peace!
