When I look at that quote above, the first thing that comes to my mind is something many people quote at
funerals. I'm sure everyone has heard it at one time or another, "...the Lord gave, and the Lord hath
taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord." What they believe is that the person was taken by God.
It is a false truth. That statement IS in the Bible. It has been recorded there. But people believe it is
God saying this and it is not something God said. It is something Job said in Job 1:21. It was a cry of
grief he uttered after learning his children were dead. It is simply something he blurted out of his fear
because he believed this would happen to them. Just because he spouted these words does not make
them truth. It is not true that the Lord gives and the Lord takes, willy nilly. Therefore while this statement
is in the Bible, people have taken it out of context and it is a false truth.
The Bible lets us know that Satan is both a deceiver and a liar and the truth is not in him (2 Thess. 2:9-
10; Rev. 12:9; John 8:44). He really would like for us to believe that he is all-powerful, but the truth is, his
power is limited to his deception, whispering lies to you.
People make the statement about a lie, "The devil mixes a little truth in with the lie so that you believe
it." WRONG. He can not tell the truth. Often what he is whispering to you that may seem like the truth is
simply something you've repented of and have been forgiven for. The devil wants you to go back and
pick it up, and to begin to feel badly about it again.
Or he just plain lies but tries to add symptoms of fear with it. One day I was walking through a parking lot
and saw a vanity license plate in the front of a car that say, “Warlock.” Immediately it was as if the enemy
brought the thought to my mind, “He is a powerful male witch, watch out.” Just as immediately, the
thought also came, “That driver serves a defeated foe and is bragging about it.” No power.
Satan also takes Scripture out of context in his effort to deceive people into believing it is not God's will
for them to be saved, healed, blessed, or prosperous here on earth. His ultimate deception is to present
truth as error and error as truth. Why? Either one will hold you in bondage and bondage is where he
wants you.
Jesus wants you free – “…If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know
the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:31-32)
The apostle Paul said this, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be
ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Tim. 2:15 AMP)
He goes on to say, “But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes, And
the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, in meekness,
instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the
acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are
taken captive by him at his will.” (vv. 23-26)
There are many people today who are unaware that they are opposing themselves by what they believe.
Being willing to accept truth and believe the Bible is the cure for deception.
I know people who believe it is God's will they have sickness and disease. They believe God is trying to
teach them something - often patience. I always wonder that if they truly believe that, why are they going
to a doctor for help? They are going against God's lesson for them if that is what they really believe!
Sometimes all it takes is a little thought or common sense to see that we believe a lie and ridiculous.
I know people who confess, "I am healed" but the minute a symptom pokes at them confess, "OH! I am
not healed. It must not be God's will to heal me right now." Wrong. It is always God's will to heal but it is
never the devil's will for us to receive it. He sends symptoms along to cause us to pay attention to our
bodies rather than what the Bible says.
Same thing with fear. Do you realize that just because you have goose bumps going up your arms and
down your spine; just because the hair is standing up on the back of your neck and your heart is beating
90 miles an hour - that STILL does not mean you are in fear?
There was a time I was studying the Bible alone at home one night and suddenly the front and back
doors slammed shut although there had been no wind outside. Immediately goose bumps rose along my
arms, my heart beat faster and the thought came, "There are demons in this house!" I stood up and
yelled, "NO way devil. You are not going to make me believe that, get outta here." My heartbeat settled
down and peace flowed over me. I don't know what caused the doors to slam shut, but I decided not to
fret about it and fear symptoms left as fast as they came on me.
I heard a story about a minister who was on a missionary assignment. He was asleep in his tent on a cot
when suddenly he woke to the feeling that his cot was being lifted off the ground. He felt an evil
presence looming over him. He opened his eyes and said, "Oh, it's just you. Go away devil." And the
cot settled back down and the presence left. The minister knew he had power over ALL the tricks of the
enemy (Luke 10:19).
We'll deal with more topics later. In the meantime, make sure you are dealing with God's truth and not a
false truth!
