COMPUTER CRASHES
9/12/2007
Sometimes I think the only thing my computer is being used for is as a place to store the registry cleaner, anti-virus, anit-
malware, anti-spyware, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-whatever programming.  I looked at the desktop the other day
and realized I had more links to things that keep my computer cleaned up than I did any other type program.

So - did that keep me from having to do a system recovery?  It did not.  As a matter of fact, I think my computer was too
clean.  I think my cleaning programs cleaned out things I needed to keep it running smoothly.  Ah but the joy-part of that
system recovery?  I had
just done an entire drive backup - halleluiah!

Unless you’ve had to do this, you have no idea how sick you feel inside when you realize you can’t get out of doing a
system recovery on your computer – and you didn’t backup anything recently.  That means you lose everything except the
things that came with the computer.  All files, documents, all purchased programs, everything.

I have to tell you - if you want joy in your computer life - MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP YOUR COMPUTER FILES
REGULARLY.  Since I'd done the entire drive recently, I even had my programs saved.  I was never a good back-er-upper
- but I had that small "prompting" to do that backup before the computer problem came.

People sometimes say, “I never hear from God” or “God never talks to me.”   Worse yet I hear, “God doesn’t care about
the little things.”  People even think God would not care about a computer crashing or you losing all your files.

Let me promise you this – I need God in every area of my life.  I have also learned that the more I listen, the better I hear
from Him.  I know He cares about EVERY area in my life.  He wants to be involved and can make my life so much easier.
Why?  Because He loves me.

One day in prayer, I asked Him to help me hear His voice more clearly.  All throughout the Bible, God says, “obey My
voice.”  If God says to obey His voice, then He is also saying you can hear His voice, otherwise, how could you obey it?
Anyway, His first answer to me was to remind me that the more time I spend in His Word (the Bible), the better I will
recognize and hear His voice.

You know this is true.  It isn’t anything deep.  When you meet a person and become friends with that person, the first few
times they telephone you, they have to say, “Hi, this is so-n-so.”   But, after you have spent time with them, spoken with
them often, and visited with them, then the telephone can ring, you pick it up, say “hello? And all they have to do is say,
“Hi” and you know who it is.

God is the same way.  The more time you spend with Him and in His Word, the better you will know His voice.

The more time you spend in His Word the better you begin to know Him intimately.  You begin to know how He thinks,
know His ways, and know how He operates.  I find the scripture in Psalms 119:105 becomes more and more true, “Thy
word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

I find when I spend time in His Word, His voice is so obvious.  Things I need to do, directions I need to follow, places I need
to be –all become more easily known.  I expect to hear from Him about everything.  I ask Him about everything from where
to find my favorite cologne to what vehicle to purchase.

And the most joyous thing of all?  He always answers me, always.  He guides me, directs me, answers tiny questions and
huge questions.

Joy is obeying because in obeying, many great things follow that obedience.
