Scientific studies on the benefits of tea are being conducted worldwide and the results
have been very positive. Tea contains a large quantity of very specific organic
compounds, known collectively as polyphenols, which are present in all teas, but the
most powerful forms are more pronounced in green tea. Tea polyphenols are strong
antioxidants. Scientific evidence points to the role antioxidants play in cancer prevention.

Ongoing research strongly supports tea's healthy nature in other areas as well. Here
are a few:

Cardiovascular Health - Tea may inhibit oxidation of LDL (low density lipoproteins),
sometimes referred to as "bad cholesterol". Scientists believe that oxidized LDL is a
potent initiator of coronary heart disease. Green tea also reduces high blood pressure
by inhibiting the formation of certain enzymes that cause constriction in blood vessels.

Healthy Teeth - With trace amounts of fluoride, tea can have an active role in
preventing cavities, by inhibiting dental plaque formation.

Antimutagenic - In vitro studies show both green and black tea polyphenols inhibit the
mutagenic action of a diverse group of carcinogens. The seeds of cancer planted in
DNA by carcinogens are blocked in the very stage of their formation by catechins and
other polyphenols found in tea.
