Too Thick Foundation (face makeup)

"Heavy makeup is a one-way ticket to looking older than you actually are," says
makeup artist Chrisanne Davis.

Choose a sheer foundation or tinted moisturizer (such as Oil of Olay Definity Color
Recapture Anti-Aging UV Moisturizer + Sheer Illuminating Coverage).  After you
apply it, press a damp makeup sponge into areas where you have wrinkles to soak
up any excess.

While the less-is-more maxim may seem counterintuitive, "the more skin you can
see, the better," says makeup artist Sandy Linter.

As long as it is well-hydrated, fresh skin looks much more youthful than an obviously
covered complexion.  Packed on coverage just highlights the wrinkles and makes a
woman look haggard and old.

Think fresh face.

Too Dark Lipstick

Bright colors, dark shades, and anything metallic or iridescent.  These are all too
heavy for thinning lips.  Choose a neutral rose shade.  Consider switching from a
lipstick to a sheer gloss — it will give you more fullness.

Darker lipsticks on "mature skin" simply not only make lips look smaller, it magnifies
wrinkles.  It is also much too harsh for the skin tone.  By the same token, too light or
too pinky also looks too harsh.  Leave those shades to the younger faces.  You are
elegant, not a teenybopper!
