I got to thinking the other day after doing some Spring housecleaning.  If I had the money from
ALL the magazines I’ve bought over the past few years, I could retire to Fiji.  I kid you not!

I am a bona-fide cosmetic and perfume junkie.  I am also a magazine junkie.  Needless to say, I
have many magazines devoted to cosmetics, fragrance, anti-aging, exercise, diet, weight loss, and
how-to’s about everything under the sun.  I love the ones specifically for those over 40 (such as
More) because they don’t aim every article at 13-21 year olds.  I love the ones that give you in-
depth research into the latest anti-aging procedures – not because I want to go under the knife
but because I just like knowing what’s going on out there in this area.  I love knowing not to waste
my money on certain products and what to do from the inside – i.e., supplements, food choices,
etc.   I just never thought wanting to KNOW could get so expensive and take up so much space!

I decided to pile them up and haul them off to a place that takes older magazines.  Now I thought
the stack would be fairly small since I’d already done this just recently, but no.  No, I have many,
many stacks of magazines.  I tried to figure out how much money I’ve spent and my brain got too
tired to continue calculating.  It is almost depressing!

Oh, I enjoyed every magazine and devoured each of them to the very end.  Most I’d marked with
sticky tabs so I could go back over the article for some reason or the other.  Unfortunately, by the
time I get back to the article (IF I do), I rarely remember what my motivation was for saving it.  So
there it is, a stack of magazines with sticky tabs sticking out of the tops of several magazines,
piled at my feet.

I think these piles go back to 2005 – isn’t that awful?  I don’t mean I need a storage shed for
them – I do wean them out every once in awhile.  It is just that niggling thought that there is
something in there I’m saving it for and if I get rid of it, I’ll never again be able to regain that
information.  HA!  I began reading the covers of a few and each one of them, without fail, dealt
with cosmetics, anti-aging, how-to’s, and whatever.

I finally had an epiphany!  Even by saving the magazines, by the time I get to them, that
information will be so out-dated it will be useless.  Each day, new information comes out about
every product under the sun.  So I can get rid of these magazines without fear!

I can also do a brain check and see if I can’t cut some of these magazines out of my life and save
the money for something worthwhile – like a vacation in Fiji!
