Let's chat a bit about self-esteem and the importance of building it on something worthwhile. Feeling
good about yourself is one of the best beauty tips ever! It shows on your face when you like yourself.
Too often, especially as women, we build our self-esteem on what some guy thinks about us. (Guys:
substitute "woman" here) It starts earlier than high school, but for sure in high school we are affected by
how some guy we have a crush on relates to us.
Say you really like this cool dude and great shock! His locker is next to your locker at school. You work
up all your courage to say hello to him and he looks at you like you are crazy and walks away, never
acknowledging that you even spoke to him.
If he blows you off, treats you badly or rudely, or totally ignores you, you think his actions dictate who you
are and what you are worth. You must be unworthy if this cool guy doesn't like you.
WRONG!
Instead of building your self-esteem on what someone else thinks about you, you need to build it on a
DECK that will never falter, fail, or change.
I believe building it on what God thinks about you is the most vital bit of information you can ever learn.
Even if you don't agree, we can agree that we should never build it on what some other person believes.
The cool dude might not have even heard you, or his actions could be because he got up on the wrong
side of the bed, was late for class, or his girlfriend just dumped him and he can't hear anything but the
pain in his heart! He may not even know he hurt your feelings yet you can allow that moment in time to
scar you for the rest of your life!
Take time to read good motivational books, books about developing healthy self-esteem, and especially
books that will tell you that God believes in you, loves you totally and unconditionally, and never fails you,
leaves you, forgets you, dumps you, ignores you, or thinks you are stupid!
Today, think about what a wonderfully made human being you are - you were put here on earth for a
reason and you are a blessing to others! Never forget that!
Let's build on a solid foundation. Until next time, follow your JOY!
