Years ago when I used to be a waitress, I well remember each place I worked at. One thing I recall is that we were
never to just stand around waiting for customers to come in and sit in our section. We actually were always doing
something. Our boss had told us what he expected from us in between customers. We "hearkened to the voice of
his word."
If we weren't washing off the tables and countertops, we were checking the salt and pepper shakers, making sure the
napkin holders, catsup and mustard bottles were full, keeping the floor spotless, doing dishes, putting up supplies
that may have come in - any number of work-related items. We were always working. A break was just that - a break
from working. When the break was over, we got back to work.
When someone came into the restaurant and sat in our section, there was a system to follow. We would take freshly
wrapped flatware and a glass of water, along with the menu, to the new customer. After setting these items down, if
the customer didn't already know what they wanted, we would step away to give them time to peruse the menu.
The customer would place their food order, we would write it down and take that piece of paper with their order on it
and give it to the cook in back. When the food was ready, the cook would say, "Order up" and we would go get the
food, make sure everything was as the customer ordered, then bring that order to the customer.
We would check in to ensure the customer had fresh water, coffee, iced tea or soft drink. We would keep an eye on
that table to make sure the customer didn't need anything at anytime during their visiting with our establishment. Our
job as waitresses was to ensure the customer received everything they ordered, and then some.
Were we not all waitresses, sent forth to wait on them who were placing an order?
Hebrews 1:14, Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation*?
Angels are spirits, ministering spirits. They are sent to serve us. Just as a waitress serves the customer, angels are
sent to serve us as saved people. The problem with Christians has been that few understand this so their angels
are standing around waiting for something to do – to be sent, to be given an order.
What is that order? Psalms 103:20 helps us with that, “Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do
his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of His word. In other words, angels are “ones who do His (God’s)
bidding, obedient to His spoken word” (NRSV).
We speak His Word, angels go to bring that Word to pass in our lives. One scripture says that angels do His
pleasure. Another scripture: His pleasure – His delight – is in our prosperity in every area of our life.
But the qualification to receiving what God has for us – to receive our order from the angels - is to speak. We have
to “place” the order, verbally. If a customer in the restaurant never told me what he wanted to order, I could never
have brought his order to him.
Same with angels. They can only do God’s bidding – God’s Word – in our life. Without our mouth engaging and
“placing the order” the angels hands are tied.
Many scriptures talk about our “profession” – which is simply another translation of the word CONFESSION. To
confess – or speak – God’s Word over our life activates our angels. When we speak God’s Word, our waitress – the
angels – goes to bring that Word to pass in our life.
So let’s put our angels to work this year – keep them so busy they have to bring in reinforcements to accomplish all
God has for us in this life.
What a little help? Here are a few scriptures to start with (you do your homework and look them up).
God takes delight in my prosperity!
God will supply all my needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
God is my source so I will never want (or lack) any good thing!
Jesus came so I can have an abundant life!
God wants to do above and beyond all that I ask or think--according to the power that works in me!
God is my healer, and by the marks on Jesus’ back, I am healed and whole in every area of my life.
I reverence God and delight in obeying His Word. Because of that, my children are powerful on this earth and are
blessed. Wealth and riches are in my house! I have right-standing with God.
I am pliable in God’s Hands, so He gives me the desires (requests) of my heart.
In just a few quick scriptures – God’s Word - I have covered health, wealth, your children, relationships, wants,
needs, and desires – everything you need to prosper and be in health this year.
The Year 2011 is going to be our best year ever – if we are willing and obedient. Only then we will “eat the good of
the land” (have the best of everything).
