Have you ever had a moment that burns itself into your mind and becomes a crystal clear memory?  It becomes
something you never forget?

I have several like that when it comes to areas God has blessed me in my past.  The one I want to tell you about
today concerns my son Joshua.

He was a little less than a year old.  He was wheezing and having trouble sleeping at night.  I remember this as if it
happened yesterday:  when I took him to the doctor, the doctor began asking about family history.  He asked
about the possibility of a history of asthma or allergies.  Now I knew for a fact that there was illness and diseases
in the family trees, and I remember thinking to myself, “I don’t want to condemn this child to a life time of trouble!”

Most importantly, I clearly remember God speaking into my spirit (no, I didn’t hear an audible voice).  He said, “You
are a born-again child of the King.  Your family tree goes all the way back to Jesus who died for every sickness
and every disease so you don’t have to have it.  Your son is a part of that family history.”

So I looked boldly into the doctor’s face and proclaimed, “No, there is no history of allergies or asthma in the
family.”  After asking a few more questions, he then suggested the possibility that the vents in the ceiling pushing
the hot air into the bedroom might be causing dryness.  He recommended getting a humidifier, I did and that $15
item solved the problem.

In studying God’s Word in the area of healing, I’ve learned that it is our responsibility to stay well and whole.  We
are to do that with the Word of God and by resisting the devil.  The devil will bring sickness to us to see if we will
accept it – and oftentimes, we do.  We sneeze and say, “OH! I must be catching a cold!”  Then instead of resisting
the enemy, we have opened the door and given him free reign to bring the cold and flu symptoms on our body.

Instead, if we sneeze, we should say, “Oh no, you’re not!  You’re not coming here and bringing me a cold!  I resist
because I am healed by the stripes of Jesus!”  Sure it might feel funny saying that at first – we are used to
speaking death instead of life!  We have to retrain our tongues to speak life – to speak like God speaks.

I had a moment in time where I could have condemned my son to a lifetime of disease simply through the words of
my mouth.  I believe that - because of the clarity of that moment and the spirit of God prompting me to speak life
over the situation.  THAT is how important the words of our mouth are – we can condemn our children to live
under the curse.

Learn to speak life.  Quit mouthing things simply because everyone does – things like, “the terrible twos” and
“picky eater” – sound familiar?  Instead, learn to speak life – blessing, wholeness, soundness, peace.  Set your
children up (and yourself) for a lifetime of the blessing of God!
