Christmastime always triggers a memory for me about Joshua's healing (my son).  That is what
I am going to share with you today.  I hope it helps your faith grow in the area of believing God
for healing when symptoms look contrary.

Joshua had just turned 10 years old and it was Christmas.  He woke up not feeling well the day
before Christmas.  He was laid out on the couch slightly disinterested in the gifts under the
tree.  He was nauseated and had a temperature.  Josh was rarely sick so when he was quiet
and on a couch unconcerned about Christmas, I knew he was pretty wiped out.

While he had never had it before, he had all the symptoms of the flu.  On Christmas morning,
he still didn't feel much better.  He even asked me, "Why don't I feel better already, mom?"  I
said I didn't know and asked if he wanted to go to the emergency room.  He said adamantly,
"No Mom, that's not faith.  I know Jesus healed me."  (Oh mom of little faith.)

I was extremely concerned.  While I could believe God for my own healing, when it came to my
child it was sometimes hard to see the symptoms and not get out of faith!  Josh didn't
immediately feel better like he usually did after praying for healing, so I was having a crisis of
faith.  I wanted instant visible results!

Christmas was on a Friday that year and I had to go back to work on Monday.  By that
Sunday, Josh was feeling better but I had questions about why his healing hadn't manifested
immediately.

I prayed on the way to work Monday and asked God why.  When I got to work I discovered that
very few people were there.  Most had called in sick.  This flu had been going around for
awhile (I didn't know) and was the worst in the history of flu.  The symptoms actually lasted up
to 2 weeks for most people.  I found out that during the past weekend, 215 people had gone
through the emergency room of our tiny hospital with worse symptoms than Josh had (some
were hospitalized), and several of the doctors and nurses had gotten sick.

Just because Josh didn't immediately manifest a healing does not mean he was not healed
when we prayed and believed for it.  The miracle was that he only had sickness symptoms for
2 days when the rest of the world took 2 weeks to get over the same thing (only worse).

The most amazing thing of all was Joshua's faith.  He believed he was healed even though it
didn't feel or look like he was.  He stuck when I questioned.  He stuck, knowing it was going to
come out just fine.

Every Christmas now I make a point of remembering that weekend he was dealing with flu
symptoms.  I take time to thank God for His wonderful healing power and for keeping my family
healthy all these years.  I am grateful that Jesus took those stripes on His back so I could be
healed and stay healed, even walk in divine health.  I also remember not to pay attention to
the symptoms when I have prayed and believed God for a healing.  God's Word is my final
authority now, not my body's symptoms! The Bible says it best:  For we walk by faith, not by
sight.
