The literal translation of that scripture is this: In hope, rejoicing. In trouble, enduring. In
prayer, steadfastly continuing. (Literal Bible)
The word "trouble" simply means PRESSURE. The enemy comes to try to pressure you to quit
believing that God's Word is true. Anything contrary to what God says will be from the enemy
(John 10:10) who comes to steal, kill and destroy.
The devil puts pressure on you through symptoms, trying to get you to accept them as being
real. He actually wants you to give up your faith - to quit believing in the Word of God on
healing, prosperity, relationships, etc. The pressure can be tremendous but you know what?
He is still a liar and can't tell the truth. John 8:44 is a very important verse: "...there is no truth
in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources (remember those
symptoms?), for he is a liar and the father of it." (NKJ)
I learned a long time ago to celebrate when the devil lied to me - why? If he is a liar, then the
opposite of what he is telling me is the truth. He say, "You're going to die!" Well YAY you liar,
thanks for telling me I am going to live! He says, "You'll never have enough." Well YIPPIE you
liar, the opposite is true - I am blessed in every area! And so on.
The word "hope" means CONFIDENT EXPECTATION. God's Word is true, always. Keep
believing you are what God says you are, even in the face of every bit of evidence to the
contrary. If you have trouble in this area, get into your Bible and study, read and meditate on
every scripture you can find that tells you what God says about the pressure you are under
(ex., healing versus sickness, prosperity versus broke).
Constant in prayer is not as hard as people may think. It does not mean, "Oh God! OHHHH
God. OHHH GOD!" Sob, sob, sniffle, boo hoo, waaa. "OHHH GOD, what am I going to do? OH
GOD, I'm sick. The doctor says I'm going to die. OHHHH GOD, don't you care?"
Neither does it mean, "Now God, you know I am sick. You know I am broke. You know I have
all these bills, Lord. The electric bill was way higher than I budgeted for. They are laying off
down at the plant, Lord. I'll probably be one of the next to go. I can't afford the groceries
anymore. And God, everything is breaking down and falling apart. God, you know I have all
these troubles."
Constant in prayer is as simple as QUOTING THE SCRIPTURE - God's Word - all the time. To
be constant is to only say what God says about the pressure. What scriptures are pertinent to
the area of pressure in your life? Are you being pressured financially? Dig in and pull out
some financial promises. Are you being pressured with sickness or disease? Rehearse the
healing scriptures found throughout the Bible.
Then this scripture comes alive for you!
In confident expectation of the Word coming true in your life, rejoice. In pressure, stick with
God's Word. In prayer, constantly speak that Word.
