I'm going to get a little "political" today because the upcoming election has so many Christians presidential choices are during this election coming up. Many have decided not to vote because they think, "what's the use?"
I tell you "what's the use" - God holds you accountable! Deuteronomy 1:13 tells us to "(YOU) Choose wise, understanding, and knowledgeable men... and I will make them heads over you."
It is our obedience that affects our lives. We can vote party platform and voting record (knowing a tree by its fruit). Don't listen the media or to what either candidate says; go look at their voting record. Check to see which one stands for that which most closely resembles what God stands for. If you, personally, do not choose a godly man (or as close to one as you can get), Deuteronomy states that the curses listed therein will come upon you. It is vital we vote and to vote correctly. Remember, Proverbs 26:2 says the curse does not come into our lives without a reason or cause. We bring it into our life through disobedience.
God also makes a point to say that no matter WHO is in office, we are commanded - not asked politely - but commanded to pray for them. And for good reason! The NLT version of Proverbs 21:1 states that "The king's heart is like a stream of water directed by the LORD; He guides it wherever He pleases."
If it is necessary, God will override the will of a nation's leader to see that His people are governed according to His will. You see that clearly in the story of King Nebuchadnezzar. Despite his status as a heathen king of a heathen nation, God intervened repeatedly in Nebuchadnezzar's life because he had God's people under his rule.
Remember, this is the king who threw Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego into the burning fiery furnace when they would not worship his golden image. This furnace was so hot, it killed the men who took Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego up to the furnace. Yet, the hair of the head of God's people was "...not singed nor were their garments affected, and the smell of fire was not on them" (Daniel 3:27).
So Nebuchadnezzar made a decree than anyone who spoke against this God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego would be cut to pieces and their homes burned to the ground. BUT (isn't there always one?)...
Even after that miracle, a year later, Nebuchadnezzar later began bragging, "Is not this great Babylon , that I have built for a royal dwelling by my mighty power and for the honor of my majesty?'' God spoke from heaven and said, "Nebuchadnezzar, that's it! You're going to lose your mind, go out in the field and eat grass and live like an animal until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses.'' Seven years later, the King came into his right mind again and then blessed, praised, and honored God Almighty. God moved on him no matter how evil he was.
Realize, no matter what the king decreed, because the three honored God, He was able to intervene and keep even the SMELL of smoke from Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. This truth holds true today with the ungodly laws being made against Christianity, not just in America but other nations. NOTHING is impossible for God. Your job is to believe that.
One scripture you may be hearing a lot of lately is 2 Chronicles 7:14 "if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." One meaning for "wicked" is as simple as to not be in faith. Wicked is believing or having faith in anything opposite God's Word (including the world's financial system).
It is OUR job to open the way for God to move, through prayer; God will deal with our leaders. If we will humble ourselves (submit to God's authority) in unity and pray, God can change the injustice and corruption that exists in our country (or any country for that matter). He'll change the hearts of everyone from the White House on down to make sure His children are governed justly.
This is why it is important for you to vote and to make it a point to pray for our leaders today! Where this country goes is in our hands.
