I remember sometime in the 1980's God strongly began dealing with people to get out of
debt. Several ministers taught on the importance of getting debt free now - especially
God and didn't obey. Instead they got deeper in debt, confident they would always be
able to pay their debt off.
Twenty some odd years later, some of the very same people are crushed down by that
very same debt, wishing they'd heeded the Word of God through those ministers. No one
envisioned gasoline (or even milk) being $5 a gallon or groceries nearly doubling in price
almost overnight. I read over the weekend that many middle class people are ending up
homeless or having to move in with friends and relatives because they've lost either their
homes or jobs.
I have good news for you today - there is no debt too big for God to handle! Trust Him to
handle yours! Trust Him to show you the way OUT.
I remember when Leland and I faced debt, foreclosure and automobile repossession in
the late 1990's. We had a rough patch in our finances (being between contracts equates
no money) along with credit card debt. The ONLY good move we made during that time
period was running to God and throwing ourselves on His mercy!
We could not see how He could help us, much less deliver us - but we knew that He was
able and willing to help us and the only one who could. After asking for that help, we
thanked Him daily and stood on the Word that He would deliver us. In less than two
years, we were out. Somehow God had delivered us from a total of over $50,000 of debt
- and it didn't even hurt (smile) except training our flesh to understand the words "NO" or
"NOT NOW".
As we looked back, there wasn't any one thing we could point our finger to and say,
"There, that's how God did it." We know He opened a few amazing job opportunities but
nothing spectacular happened such as all the debt disappearing overnight or money
raining out of the sky into our hands.
God did work in our finances all the time and as we were faithful, He was faithful. We
continued to tithe and give offerings. We signed up with a nonprofit credit counseling
agency who ran interference between us and the credit card companies. We received
favor with those companies, some reducing our debt by half. We just obeyed every step
God told us to take.
God can do the same thing for you if you'll dare to believe Him and His Word. If you will
make a commitment to get out of debt AND stop getting into debt (it may require credit
card surgery - cut them up), then obey Him every step of the way, He will get you out.
As you look at your situation right now, you may not be able to see how you could ever
get out of debt, much less stay that way. You may not see how you can live debt free.
But God showed us how and He'll do the same thing for you. The sooner you turn it all
over to Him, the sooner you can be on your way out of bondage into FREEDOM.
