EW Kenyon once said that “you can not have two confessions in your heart - one is going to
destroy the other.”
I challenge you to listen to yourself speak during every waking hour for a day or two. Ask God
to point out anything you say that is contrary to His Word. You will be astonished at what
comes out of your mouth. I know I have been.
What words, you ask? I am so GLAD you asked me that! Let me throw out a few opening lines
that could possible come out of your mouth. I will leave it to you to fill in the blanks:
“I don’t know why…”
“I can’t seem to… “
“This ALWAYS happens to me…”
“I’m allergic to…”
“I never seem to be able to…”
“No matter what I do, I can’t…”
“The experts say…” (when what they say is opposite of what the Word says)
“I’ve tried that but…”
“Every time I get a little ahead, this seems to happen…”
If I don’t stop now, none of us will ever be able to open our mouths. Well, I’m not sure that is a
bad thing. If what we speak is negative and more about what is wrong than what the Word of
God says, we will have more of what is wrong in our lives than what the Word of God says!
Take our financial standing. It might not be where we want it to be right now. So we do what we
are supposed to do – tithe, give offerings, and thank God for His provision – in our prayer time.
Then in our every day interactions with people, we make jokes about the economy. We talk
about how awful the gas prices are. We focus on how much the grocery bill is and how
everything is going up. We watch the news and begin to feel panicky inside. We think about
streeeeee-tttccchhhinng our paycheck to get by from payday to payday.
Why is that bad? We begin to think more about and focus more on lack, lack, lack. And that
very thinking will overtake any Word we have put in about God’s provision, prosperity, having
more than enough, or having our needs supplied over and above what we ask or think.
If we continually sow “lack” topics in our spirit, we will draw continued lack toward ourselves. So
if we watch the evening news and all its doomsday forecasting – if we read news articles about
how bad it is everywhere – if we talk about how tough it is with our co-workers – if we make
jokes about it – if we focus more on “not enough” rather than God’s over and above – we will
not only stay in lack, we will have more of it.
We will say every now and then, “God supplies my needs, praise the Lord!” but when we’re
around negative nellies, we will find ourselves agreeing with their negative reports and giving
some of our own. And what comes out of our mouth the most often is what is really in our heart
– what is deep down inside us (what we REALLY believe).
So it goes back to what E.W. Kenyon said – one confession is destroying the other.
Every word we speak either produces life in our lives or death – death to dreams, prosperity,
healing, relationships, or focus. Which confession is being destroyed in your life today – the
negative one or the positive one? The life-giving one or the death-producing one?
It’s up to you which confession reigns.
