JoyUs Musing
I learned a little song when I was in Sunday School that went something like this:

Be careful what you say, little mouth,
Be careful what you say, little mouth
For the Father up above,
Is looking down in love
Be careful what you say, little mouth!

There were other verses like being careful what you do, little hands and be careful where you go, little feet.  I just
remembered it because of the topic on the words of our mouth.

I heard many ministers give a message for the year 2008 – all of them mentioned the importance of the words of our
mouth!  I can personally relate to that.  All I have to do is think back on things that have happened in my life – both
serious and silly.

One example is about a car.  I had a 1973 Mercury Monterey.  Mind you, it drove like a dream but it was a HUGE 4-
door lead sled (as friends fondly called it) and I was a youngish woman who wanted a sports car.  I hated being seen
in that monster car.

I said many, many times, “Man, I wouldn’t even care if it needed work, I just wish I had a sports car instead of this
monstrosity!”  Guess what?  A few years later, I purchased a wonderfully sharp sports car.  I loved that car!  Can you
guess?  I ended up having all sorts of problems with it.  Problems that didn’t even make sense like a formerly great
mechanic forgetting things like putting back in bolts and screws when he did work on the car.

I was so glad to see the last of that car!  It truly was cursed.

Imagine how I felt, then, when God began to deal with me about being careful about what I said and showed me the
importance of our words with that car memory.  I didn’t just say that line one time over a car I desired – nope, I said it
several times.  I could have kicked myself because I did like that car but it didn't have a choice but to have problems
because I spoke them into existence.

The Bible states in Proverbs 18:21 “21.  The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its
fruit (NIV) – or “…those who indulge it must eat the fruit it yields” (NJB).  I sure ate the fruit of that line about not caring
if it needed work as long as it was a sports car.  Ugh!

I heard a minister say one time, “If you don’t want it in your life, don’t say it.  Period.  DON’T SAY WHAT YOU DON’T
WANT.  SAY WHAT YOU DO WANT.
