...that I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works. (Psalm 26:7)
The above scripture verse says it all for me. I love telling (or publishing) about God's wondrous works -
His goodness. So many people only know God as a "somewhere up there" entity or a mean,
judgmental being. This only means they don't know Him at all.
God is a good God. He loves His creation - His people. He may not love what we do but He loves us
all, unconditionally. People often confuse that issue - they forget - GOD IS LOVE and He loves
people. They attack the people rather than focus on the fact that God loves people. He hates certain
actions - lying, stealing, certain flesh addictions - because they hurt us, His creation. But GOD LOVES
PEOPLE.
This Thanksgiving holiday, let us remember that God loves people and let us represent Him in that - by
loving people, too. Look around you and find someone in need - help them, bless them financially,
give them a helping hand. Go through your house and gather up excess that you don't need or don't
use. Take it to a local shelter, Salvation Army, or Goodwill.
Think outwardly rather than inwardly. Think of others instead of yourself. No matter what you are
going through, this attitude will help. Get your eyes off yourself! Get them on God and others. As
you help others - what you make happen for others - God will make happen for you. He is your source
and He uses you to help others.
I know that during our toughest time financially, my husband and I ended up focusing on gifting the
people in the nursing home at which he was pastor. We didn't have enough money for our own
Christmas so working with our home church, we began finding ways to bring in gifts for these lonely
people. It was one of the BEST Christmases we ever had because the people were so happy and we
had so much fun finding gifts for them.
God says in Deuteronomy 15 that the poor will always be with us - they are never going to go away. He
says that if you will help the poor, that He (God) will bless you in all your works and in all to which you
put your hand. WHAT A PROMISE! (Deut. 15:7-11)
So in the midst of the holiday feast preparations - don't forget about the poor in your area. Find a way
to give to the poor. Our Dollar General Stores here in my local area have boxes in their stores for food
and toys. A few dollars can make a difference to a needy family. Salvation Army often does food
baskets.
Show your gratitude for the blessing of God on your life by helping others.
Ezra 3: 11. And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the Lord; because he
is good…
1 Chronicles 16: 34. O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.
Psalm 34: 8. O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
